Food on the streets
As Germany goes through hard times, a new cookbook is encouraging its citizens to make the most of foods, such as dandelion, growing wild in their pavements and as weeds. Meanwhile the Hartz IV cookbook, which contains austerity recipes from the First World War, has become a bestseller.
At least I'm only advocating foraging for fun and variety. Any savings are a bonus.

The recipe for rucola or rocket pesto comes with a useful tip: “Rucola is a robust weed and you should be able to find some growing on the fringes of the car park in front of the job centre.”
